Help us educate Students, Youth, and Tribals to create awareness about the importance of bird protection ━

The sights of high flying birds inspire imagination of awe and wonder in human minds. Our valley is bestowed with diverse habitat types; it is an abode of amazing biodiversity including a wealth of avifauna.

The valley is situated in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, India. It is situated at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level and is around 115 Km from the state capital Itanagar. This old town was the original headquarters of the erstwhile undivided Subansiri district which was later bifurcated into six districts.

The valley is surrounded by two legendary mountains Tapang Morey in the east & Naring Morey in the west, besides many legendary hillocks located in and around the valley. The main valley is predominantly covered by paddy fields, wide and open, where several winter migratory birds are spotted. It is home to migratory birds of the state. In the recent years, several migratory birds were spotted including Mandarin Duck and White Cheeked Starling which are rarely seen in other part of India.

The areas in and around the valley has seen different flocks of birds coming during various times of the years as if to enjoy the different seasons across the year. There have been as many as 360 different species that have been recorded around the valley. However, with lack of awareness and knowledge, there looms a large threat on these birds due to hunting and also habitat loss.

Our endeavour is to create this handbook (1st edition) that will contain 150 of these bird species with their photo, local name & scientific name mentioned on it. We expect that this book will help in creating awareness about the importance of conservation among the students, youth and the community at large. We will continue to update the handbook with newer editions in future as well.
